PhD student, Department of Music
Simón is a Chilean cultural sociologist and musicologist. His work focuses on cultural policy, popular music and migration studies. He has taught and researched these subjects in several universities in Chile and also worked in public institutions related to the Chilean cultural field, such as the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage and the National Council for Television.
He has written on inequalities in cultural participation, cultural institutions, the definition of popular culture, popular music and industry in Chile, and conceptual and policy approaches to migration In Chile. For his PhD he is currently researching the construction of a racialised, sexualised and classed otherness by means of cultural policies directed towards musical practices of immigrant communities in Chile.
